Amy Howard Home - Sneak Peek Dallas Market - Part 2

As part of the Sneak Peek at the Dallas Market Center I got to hear Amy Howard speak passionately about finishes. She shared with us how she and her husband got started in business with a $1,150 table saw and a $4,500 van that she had to get someone to help her jump start everyday. She grew her business into a very successful company, the Amy Howard Collection, which you can see here. But the company she was talking to us about is the, "Amy Howard at Home, Rescue, Restore, Redecorate." It is all about finishing products that you can use to Rescue, Restore and Redecorate your own furniture. This is part 2 of my Sneak Peek at the Dallas Market, you can see Part 1 here.

She stated that people in the US throw away 10 million pieces of furniture each year. Doesn't that just seem sinful.

Here are some samples of her paint finishes and her finishing products.

Amy is talking with Leslie Wood from Hadley Court. Now you know Amy Howard is down to earth, just look at her flip flops.
Her husband and partner Gene was at the event as well.
One of the products that really interested me was the mirror antiquing kit. In a previous post about Trumeau Mirror Love, which you can see here, one of the issues we had was trying to age the mirrors and after awhile we just gave up and left the mirrors in new condition. But NOW it looks like we can do this fairly easily. I love a aged mirror!

I encourage you to follow Amy Howard on Pinterest which you can do right here, where you can see tons of ideas of examples of restoring your furniture finds.  Also if you would like you can also follow my boards on Pinterst right here.

You can find out all about her finishing products here on her website.

Another amazing product is her Natural Zinc Antiquing Solution which you can use on any metal product to get an aged antiqued zinc finish.

Another product I think is amazing is the her High Performance Furniture Lacquer product. I have always loved a lacquer high gloss finish. It comes in a spray can!!!

I have seen so many talented people on-line who are refinishing and re-purposing furniture in so many beautiful and different ways. But I don't think I have seen zinc finishes, aged mirrors, or lacquer finishes. If you have tried one of these finishes I would love to see your piece. Share your link in the comment section below so we can all take a peek. Have you ever used any of Amy Howard's finishes?

  1. These pieces all look beautiful, and yes, it is quite sinful that we throw away so much...especially when there are so many people in need.
I love that red. What a gorgeous piece and a fabulous finish! I am afraid I have never used any of her finishes but will keep them in mind for a project.

  2. Waste? My general contractor worked as a sub at a large site and they threw out enough new lumber to build more than a dozen new homes. Large homes.

Who knew there was plenty of free furniture to fill them?

Decorating/gardening are quite political topics. More, they are spiritual when so many people are suffering.

Amy's shoes, love her for them too.

    1. As a country we throw out food while people are starving and apparently we also throw out everything else. But I do think as a country we are turning around, a little at a time. The whole movement of refinishing re-furbishing and rehabbing. Let's just hope the momentum continues.
      Thanks, Patty

    1. So glad you also had the opportunity to meet Amy. She's seems very down to earth. The natural zinc solution does sound really cool - any metal can now be a zinc finish - pretty cool.
