HGTV Star - Down to Final Three Contestants

Are you watching HGTV Star this season? I think it may be the best season yet. On Sunday night the four remaining contestants had the task of transforming a school bus into an inspiring space. Yes, a school bus. Some of the past projects I think have been very interesting, such as the glass houses and the shipping containers, but a school bus!

So here are the results of this competition.

This first one is from designer Anne Rue. She did a living room and bedroom space. Now remember they were suppose to do an inspiring space, anything they wanted. I do think this is a pretty space but I can't say that it is inspiring. From this shot you can see the living room and back towards the bedroom. The judges commented that the chairs and sofa were too large for the space and it didn't function well to be able to move through the space or for people to really sit in the space. Love those hardwood floors.
Here is a close up of the bedroom space. I love that chandelier and the two lights right and left of the bed, as well as the wallpaper that was installed behind the bed. What I can't say I care much for is the mirror above the bed or the sloppy bedding. The judges commented that Anne does pretty spaces but that the space was not inspiring and that the bedding, again, was sloppy. It was sad to see Anne leave the show this week.
This is the space of Jeribai Tascoe. He choose to do a boxing work out space and a lounge. Yes, much more inspiring of a space. He immediately removed the wheel wells from the bus - great idea! I like all the bright colors, the two boxing bags, the locker and the industrial light.
From here you can see the lounge area and the boxing space. I am loving these wood slats along the walls and the paint color. It feels masculine without being overly so. Check out the wood flooring. The judges did not like his drapes and I have to say I agree 100%, but that was the only thing I found fault with. Oh, the judges also didn't like that he had candle holders with no candles in them.

This is the space of  Brooks Atwood. Now here is a man who can do original design, but will it be enough to get him to the winners spot on HGTV Design. He decided to do his inspiring space as a time travelers space. No one can ever accuse Brooks of not having an imagination. He created this sculptural piece made out of wood slats, think of all the work involved in getting this done. He then hung this amazing little chair by fishing wire into the space. It does make me think I could sort of go sit and that chair and those slats would start spinning and off I would go to another place and time.

Here is a photo showing the view towards the front of the bus. I like that flooring and and the bright colors of the furniture and the accessories.  The globe is a really nice touch.

This is the space  of Tiffany Brooks. She created an inspiring space based on Alice in Wonderland, The Mad Hatter Tea Party. I love it! It is a whimsical space and I want to go get on her bus. I love the teal color of the walls and windows, the chandeliers, and the mismatched chairs and the tea cups. The judges commented that they didn't care for her just putting plants at the back of the bus, but that was their only negative comment. Tiffany was the winner of this competition.
Here you can see towards the front of the bus. Loving those mismatched wall hangings, and the table decor is absolutely fabulous.
Here are some additional photos from the winner of this competition. These accessories really make her space the special imaginative space that it is.

In my opinion Tiffany was the clear winner of this challenge, and I think Brooks would have come in second and then Jeribai in third place. The main reason I think Jeribai would be in third place was because of his failure on executing the drapes.

I can't imagine being on this show. The speed in which everything has to be done would not interest me at all. But this is a competition and you have to put a time limit on things, given enough time and resources most people could come up with an excellent design, however being able to construct an idea, execute that idea and make it a reality in a limited amount of time is the real challenge of this competition.

Sometimes I think Anne is the real winner here because she gets to move forward now with her life and her design business which will be more successful and busier than ever. I would wish her luck, but her talent speaks for itself. She is already successful.
So next week the three remaining competitors will be competing for the title of  the new HGTV Star. They will be going to Palm Springs where they will make over a luxury hotel suite. It looks like the Property Brothers will be joining the cast of the show next week as mentors. Should be interesting. All photos Via HGTV Star.

Do you watch the HGTV Star show? I wish they had this show on more often. I love seeing the designs of all of these brave individuals who choose to come onto this show. There is so much opportunity to be gained from just being on this show, and of course the longer they are on the show the more exposure they get to have to the public. It is an amazing opportunity, and we get to benefit by seeing all of their talent and individual taste. Do you have someone you are hoping will win and become the new HGTV Star?

  1. I love Anne's style...yes, I think the configuration and size of the furniture was her downfall...She pays much attention to detail which lends to eating up most of her time...?..her overall design was wonderful...and love the details of Tiffany...so we shall see who wins...I think Tiffany is a front runner...

  2. I loved this episode. Now I want a school bus for my backyard! Tiffany's table floored me, and that wall color-Wow! Brooks is so innovative, but it sounds like his camera personality may keep him from winning. So much fun to see these photos and be reminded of all of the details from the episode. I'm looking forward to seeing the hotel suites. laurie

    1. Laurie, I loved this episode too. I agree with you about Brooks downfall being his camera performance, and I do think he would have to practice on this a lot, and not so sure there is enough time for him to improve significantly enough to win. So that leaves Jeribai and Tiffany. Hmm........

  3. Thanks so much for posting this. The last two weeks I have missed because I didn't realize it was on. Last year it started later. I really wanted to see this weeks show. I am in love with the Mad Hatter one. Wow, so beautiful.
I agree this is one show that should be on more often. And also for them to slow the pace. It is over way too soon. Each year it gets better. I am not missing this week..
    Thanks.

    1. Debby, I agree they could extend this show to be on for a longer period of time or to do it twice a year, well I guess they can't have a winner every year, but maybe a show similar to this one, and it does get better every year. I am so excited to see what these three amazing designers do on the final show.
      Thanks, Patty

  5. I like the tea party.

I've never seen the show, I tend to enjoy more traditional decorating shows, but there are not many of those anymore. On the other hand, I think the newer shows are probably more in touch with what people want out of design; viewers know they can achieve it on their own budget or they realize they could do it themselves.

    Interesting post and observations.

  6. My hubby and I are big fans of Design Star/HGTV Star and have been watching it from the very beginning. I kind of thought that Jeribai should have been the one to go last week, but I didn't think that Anne would make it to the end either. It's really down to the tough part now. For different reasons, I love all three of the contestants who are left.

    1. Suzy I like them all also, and yes for very different reasons. As an HGTV Star I really think that Tiffany would make the best overall choice, but Brooks has an amazing mind and he creates the most unusual spaces but how marketable is he when it comes to the camera challenge, and how well is he able to relate to the current audience of HGTV. Jeribai although very likable struggles sometimes with his camera challenge and some of his design decisions are a bit questionable, such as the drapes. He shouldn't have made the drapes, he even stated that he wasn't very good at it and he had been called out on the drapes he did at the fraternity, but then does it again, not the best decision.

This is one tough show to be on! I really have to wonder if Anne wasn't tired of it all and well she just didn't seem to be up to par on this last challenge, she struggled finding furniture and she really didn't finish her space, and she broke down from what appeared to be exhaustion and frustration, and she again left her space with wrinkled and sloppy bedding. I felt sorry for her, but I think she was ready to go. It has to be exhausting always being on and it is a race! Being on this show would be of no interest to me. Having to make a immediate decision about an entire space and having to execute that decision in a tiny amount of time and then get judged on every single aspect. Crazy.

  8. Hi, Patty! I can tell just how much you look forward to Sunday evenings by the detailing in this post! I adore this show, also! It's always recorded so I can go back and take a more detailed look the second time around. The Alice in Wonderland clearly was the winner but I think I would take the boxing themed bus as second ~ even if the drapes were wonky. But that is the beauty of decorating.. it's all in the eyes of the beholder. Fabulous post and I look forward to getting to know you better! I am now your newest follower!!! Woohooo!!

    1. Kadee, I record the shows as well. I wish there were more decorating shows on tv, but they have gotten scarce lately. There are plenty of real estate shows but not many decorating shows. I think Jeribai did an incredible job on his boxing bus and I personally like his style more than Brooks, but the amount of work that was involved in Brooks sculpture piece at the back of the bus was incredible, and remember they all had the same amount of time. I do think the rest of Brooks bus was a little under-decorated, however he is more of a minimalist, so that is his style. And yes, I do enjoy this show very much and I am looking forward to see how they decorate their hotel suites in the final challenge. They are all so very talented, and they are all winners. By the way, I love your blog and I am your newest follower on bloglovin.
      Thanks, Patty

    1. Andrea, they were told to do an inspiring space and I think they did just that. These are just regular yellow school buses you see all the time. Only one contestant, Jeribai removed the wheel wells, everyone else worked around them. The final show will be on this coming Sunday night on HGTV.
      Thanks, Patty

  10. Patty,
Thanks so much for stopping by!! The Northeast is in a week long heat wave so I do not know how my flowers will fare after this even though I am watering and watering...

I am not an HGTV fan. I loved it when the Channel first came into being but the styles they showcase on it now are so not reflective of mine so I almost never watch it. I do like Flea Market Flip and Going Yard though but that is about it...

    Hugs,
    Deb
