I am sure we have all seen some of her amazing fabrics, but this book tells us so much about how the materials came to be and what inspires and motivates her. Here is her website.
Below is her Script Collection of fabrics.
The book is broken down into the following subjects:
The Total Look, Colour, Shape, Fabric, Paper, Paint, Food, Flowers
Each subject is discussed in detail to give you some insight into what inspires her thoughts and her design process.
Here is her Modern Lace Collection
In the book in the section about, shape, she says, "You can love certain colours, but colour is not what defines your taste. Shape defines your taste because of what it forces you to exclude. If you are drawn to flowing lines, to scrolls, to certain shapes of chair, for example, immediately there is much that will not interest you. And in that process of the eye recognizing what it likes, your taste is defined."
I think this is so true for me, I have always preferred shapes that turn and twist, that have movement, and I don't care for straight lines especially in furniture. It is not that I don't have an appreciation for straight lines, it is just that my preference goes towards movement.
This is truly an inspirational book with so many amazing pictures to spend a great deal of time just looking at them and taking in the details, but it is also a book about creativity and perhaps could help you define some of your creativity and personal taste. Do you find that your creativity is enhanced when you spend time looking books such as this one?
