Burlap Topiary Tutorial

I seem to have fallen in love with burlap. I saw a couple of burlap topiaries on Pinterest and decided to make one of my own. Initially I was going to buy two styrofoam balls and a 1/2" wooden dowel but found these two beauties in Walmart for $4.97 each, which was less than one 4" stryrofoam ball.
The materials for this project are:
the two items above or two 4" styrofoam balls and a 1/2"wooden dowel
ball point stick pins
3 rolls of 5" x 10 yards of burlap
2 containers
bag of grey moss
and a pair of scissors

I got my major inspiration from Design Dining And Diapers where she shows you how she made a much larger burlap topiary tree which is stunning.
I tried to follow her directions on folding the pieces of burlap but I just couldn't get it to work, so I cut my burlap trim in 5" square pieces.
Then folded it into thirds.
And then I folded it in half.
I then started pinning each square onto the ball starting at the top.

And working my way down and around.
I found these two containers at Michaels on clearance for $1.49 each.
I did have to make my sturdy in the pot so I added some cut pieces of floral foam that I already had, and then placed grey moss around the top and that's it.
I love the way they turned out.
I made two of them and placed then on my dining room table along with a cloche I bought from HomeGoods the other day. I painted the cloche white with some spray paint and placed a candle inside and surrounded it with some cinnamon scented pinecones.
Here is it all together.

If I were to make these again I would use the wooden dowel and the styrofoam balls because this is top heavy and the wooden dowel would have been stronger than the dowels on the one's I bought at Walmart. What have you made out of burlap? I have found burlap to be an interesting material with so many possibilities.
