DIY Headboard Bench - One Room Challenge - Week Four - Porch

It is now week four of a six week challenge. Only two weeks left to the final reveal. If you haven't seen the previous weeks then go here for week one, and here for week two, here for week three, so you can catch up.

This past Saturday I went to McKinney Trade Days, it runs one weekend a month in McKinney Texas. It is a flea market sort of place, with everything from new leather furniture and rugs to refurbished furniture, dishes and lots of bad good food. While I was there I saw a bunch of headboards that had been made into benches and I thought wouldn't one of those be great on my porch. The problem was I didn't have a headboard. Well, sometimes things really do just show up. The very next morning someone had tossed this mess beauty.

There was no footboard, no rails, just this headboard. I felt like they left it just for me. The piece on the top left had been broken off as was the decorative piece in the middle but the pieces were just laying there.

It is a gift, right. So now to get to work making this more than just a headboard left battered and damaged. It is going to have a new life. First I needed some front legs for my bench which I found at our local Home Depo store. I think these are going to look fabulous.

Did I tell you my husband is pretty handy with some wood and some tools. He built a frame for the bench and attached it to the headboard.

Then he added the slats across the top of the bench and attached the two pieces that had been broken. While he was doing that I went and got some Kilz and some plastic to start painting our new bench.

Now I need to get busy giving her a couple of coats of paint. I also need to find her a comfy pad so we can sit on her. I have painted my wicker chair, but she needs another coat of paint to complete her transformation. I am also looking for a cushion for her seat, which isn't easy because it is an irregular size seat.

I purchased two 6x9 dropcloths which I am going to make into drapes to go on each side of the porch opening.

I wanted white hooks and drapery hooks but all I could find was black or gold, but that paint can was within reach, so white hooks I now have.

After I am done paining outside then I can hang up these beauties.

So I still need to:
Finish painting the wicker chair and the bench. 
Find padded seating for the wicker chair and for the new bench.
Hang drapes.
Find accessories.
Find some sort of hanging lights and hang them.
