Blown Glass and Watercolor Vignette

After the holidays have passed and all the decorations have been removed

I often want to do some light decorating.

Nothing heavy or too busy.

I brought together a glass blown lamp and a colorful glass blown round dish

and put them in front of a watercolor painting

of two ladies at lunch

with some various finials in the center.

Glassblowing has been around for centuries

but people often feel it is something modern.

Personally I like mixing blown glass in whenever possible.

Glass can have so much movement.

The colors seem to dance.

Or maybe it’s just me trying to force Spring into season.

The glass blown lamp you may have seen before on my fall table display.

It has a script paper lampshade and a glass blown vase.

I believe the base is brass as it is very heavy.

I love the swirls and movement of colors in the glass.

I acquired the painting many years ago at an art show in downtown Birmingham, Alabama.

It reminded me of my sister Mary at the time.

Two ladies lunching seemed like a fine thing for us to do.

Since it is my painting I get to decide who is who and therefore

I am the lady on the right and Mary is on the left.

I can hear her arguing now about who should be who.

The artist is Jeanne Nash.

Hmmm…maybe it is those legs that I think I should get to have

or perhaps it is her shoes or the skirt….

In the center I have placed several finials.

The one in the back is light as a feather.

The ones left and right weigh about 5 pounds each and are great for exercising.

The one lying on it’s a side is from a drapery rod finial where the rod ended at the wall

leaving no room for a finial.

I do believe my love of finials may have started with this one.

Did I mention that my great grandfather was a glass blower from Sweden?

I have two canes that he made that I will have to show you one day.

The canes are in a place where they are safe but it is difficult to get a good picture of them.

 

These were all items I already had and simply gathered them together to display them in a new way.
